Performance Management

To create a high performance culture, supervisors and officers need to develop effective performance management skills. This includes setting clear objectives, measuring team and individual performance and motivating staff to improve performance. This course is designed for managers who wish to develop the full potential of their teams, enabling their staff to exceed even their own personal expectations.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the link between effective Performance Management and company’s goals and team results.
  • Create and measure objectives.
  • Run effective appraisal meetings to encourage staff to reach agreed goals and pick up any development opportunities.
  • Confidently deal with difficult performance issues positively for all involved.
  • Recognize when to give formal and informal motivational feedback.Developing a personal action plan to apply concepts to real work situations.

Program Duration & Certification

2 days (14 hours) from 9 am to 5 pm; inclusive of daily 1 hr lunches and 2 tea breaks. A Certificate of Participation will be awarded upon completion of the course.

  1. An introduction to managing performance
    • Understand the purpose & benefits in managing performance.
    • Explore traditional and contemporary practices & models in performance management.
  2. Understanding company’s performance management framework
    • Steps in managing performance
    • Examine the different roles & responsibilities of a supervisor in managing performance.
  3. Setting direction - Establishing measurable objectives and standards
    • Understand the importance of setting clear goals.
    • The link between performance objectives and organizational strategy and results
  4. Sustaining Performance - Coaching and Motivating Others
    • Understand coaching – its principles and benefits. Explore models and tools in coaching others
  5. Creating a high performance culture.
    • Providing recognition and helping people learn from success.
  6. Personal development planning
    • Preparing a personal action plan to support your return to the workplace

Programme Content: Day 2

  1. Improving Performance and Developing Others
    • Framework for identifying behavioral indicators on good and poor performance
    • Approaches to creating effective development plans & managing poor performance.
  2. Giving and Receiving Feedback
    • Principles of constructive feedback and the performance feedback loop
    • Getting the message across and accepting the message– useful models & frameworks
  3. Appraising and Rating Performance
    • Preparing for a performance discussions & gathering and assessing information
    • Concepts of successful discussions & Pitfalls of performance appraisals and ratings
    • Dealing with difficult conversations and situation
    • Legal and ethical issues
  4. Personal Development Planning
    • Preparing a personal action plan to support return to the workplace
